An Afghan national has pleaded guilty to raping a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, Warwick Crown Court heard today.
The defendant, who arrived in the UK via small boat in 2022 and was granted asylum, admitted one count of rape of a child under 13.
The attack occurred in September 2024 after he lured the victim into woods.
Judge recorder Anthony Potter remanded the man in custody ahead of sentencing next month.
Prosecutors described the offence as “predatory and prolonged.”
The case has renewed scrutiny over vetting procedures for asylum seekers arriving irregularly.
